VOTE NO on Nikki Bas for Alameda County Supervisor
As Oakland City Council President, Nikki Bas is a total failure.
Failure on Public Safety
Nikki Bas led the efforts to defund the police, even proposing to cut the Oakland police budget in half – by $150 million. She was warned those public safety cuts would decimate 911 response times and increase crime. But she didn’t care.
Nikki ignored experts and commonsense because she has a political agenda that is putting all of us at risk.
State law enforcement agencies had to intervene four times in the last three years because of the failure of Oakland’s city leaders. As President of the Oakland City Council, Nikki Bas refuses to make public safety a priority.
It’s no wonder firefighters and first responders are endorsing her opponent. Crime is sky-high, and Nikki Bas is in big part to blame.
Failure on Fiscal Management
As Oakland City Council President, Nikki Bas has displayed stunning incompetence when it comes to managing the city’s finances. While the city faced a $117 million shortfall, she failed to collect $34 million in business taxes. Bas even missed a grant deadline that would have brought millions to Oakland to fight retail theft.
The Mercury News even once said Bas "lacks basic knowledge of the City’s fiscal problems” and endorsed her opponent for city council. Bas has the wrong priorities, and because of her inability to do the job, Oakland is headed in a dangerous direction.
Failure on Housing & Homelessness
While the cost of housing continues to skyrocket in Oakland and Alameda County, Nikki Bas has a record of voting against new housing projects the East Bay desperately needs. For example in 2022, Bas voted to kill a 360-unit affordable housing project near Lake Merritt. And under her watch, homelessness has gotten remarkably worse in Oakland and throughout Alameda County.
Nikki Bas is dangerous. She is playing politics with our safety and failing all of us.
